I am guilty of over-stressing about outfits when booking our own family sessions. The most important thing to keep in mind is that these family photo sessions are intended to show the connections and special moments shared within your family. Follow my six tips to help your outfit selection process become less painful.

TIP ONE: DON"T PROCRASTINATE
Choose your outfits ahead of time. Don’t wait until the last minute - it will be very stressful! It is a good idea to start thinking about your outfits when you book the session, and have them ready to go a few days (or a week) before.

TIP TWO: COORDINATE
The clothing should coordinate, but not be matchy matchy! Neutrals and earth tones are great in photographs - think creams, very soft pastels, light browns, tans, and grays. Stay away from busy patterns, pictures of characters, and t-shirts with writing on them. Choose two main colors, and then some soft accents across the family. It helps to lay all of the outfits out and look at how they coordinate.

TIP THREE: YOUR HOME
Think about your home decor! You will want these photos hanging in your homes - your outfits should compliment this! Does your home have a lot of grays? Or is it more browns? Think about this when choosing your outfits.

TIP FOUR: THINK OF THE LOCATION
Keep the location in mind. Try to compliment the location. For example, if you are taking photos with a lot of greenery, soft colors pop nicely against the background!

TIP FIVE: BE COMFORTABLE
Wear clothing that you can move in. Try to stay away from low cut shirts, too tight of clothes, or short dresses. These types of clothing become unflattering in different poses. Soft and flowy fabrics look great in photos! You will find the experience much more enjoyable if you are feeling comfortable in your clothing.

TIP SIX: ADD ACCESSORIES
Adding fun accessories can add personality into your photographs! Think about jewelry, bow ties, etc. For example, these flower crowns were a perfect addition to their outfits!
